It’s been a busy summer at Winchester Grange! The State Grange is finally, completely moved in and we thank the State Grange for the tables and other items from Good Will Grange Hall in Glastonbury.
The new items drew our attention to the amount of little used items we had in storage in the garage. In late July we held a tag sale and made a respectable profit and the remaining junk was donated to Good Will (the nonprofit company) and the worn out wooden tables, lumber and other items were donated to a person who collects scrap. As a result the garage is now cleared out.
Right after our tag sale, inexplicably, people were dropping off lamps, exercise machines and other HUGE items in the driveway of the hall with no advance warning. We hesitate to put up signs to stop donations as the signs may be confused and hurt donations to the St. Pauly Shed.
We have no plans to have another tag sale in the near or distant future so please... no more donations of tag sale items. We are still accepting donations of books for the Grange book sales in August and textiles/ clothing for the St. Pauly Shed at the back of the hall.
Our Fair was held in August. It was a beautiful day but our attendance was down. Is it possible the weather can be “too good”? We still realized a decent profit and best of all, we are property tax-free for another year.
Moving on to September – we will be participating with the Winchester Center Cong. Church, the Fire Dept. and Historical Assoc. to put on the annual Winchester Center Day. The Grange’s contribution will continue to be our sale of homemade apple crisp at the Grange Hall while there are demonstrations, live music and booths around the Winchester Green. Join us from 10-2 on Saturday, Sept. 28. Admission and parking are always free!
