Around The Grange
Hamburg Fair this weekend

By Rock Koster, New London Day (8-15-13)

  AUGUST 15, 2013 --

The start of the late summer/autumn fair season is a glorious time of the year.

Hasten, then, to the 112th presentation of the Hamburg Fair, taking place Friday through Sunday at its hallowed grounds in Lyme.

Yes, there is everything we as humans require in a fair: carnival rides, a midway, concessions, pony rides, activities and games for kiddos, live music, antique tractors, farm and animal exhibits, crafts and various contests ranging from baking to photography - and even Western re-enactments and blacksmith demonstrations.

Vibrantly present in all of this, of course, is a tangible spirit of community, family and friendship - and even first time visitors sense these qualities as soon as they enter the fairgrounds.

Hamburg Fair, Lyme Grange Fairgrounds, Route 156 and Sterling City Road, Lyme; 5-11 p.m. Fri., 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Sat. and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sun.; $5, $3 seniors and active service members, free for kids under 12; hamburgfair.org.
