DECEMBER 4, 2011 -- Ekonk Community Grange # 89 of Sterling donated the profits from a recent Roast Beef Supper to the Home At Last campaign of the Jewett City American Legion Veterans Housing, Inc. on Veterans Day, announced William J. Czmyr, Jr., TALVHI President.
“We are indeed most grateful for this generous gift of $1,241 to our homeless veterans project which we will use to help furnish one of the eighteen apartments now under construction”, Czmyr added.
The gift was presented by Past Grange Master, Russell Gray, accompanied by members David Griffiths, an Air Force Veteran and his wife Susan Griffiths all of whom worked and helped promote the event. “Our Grange has become a community service organization where we help many local projects and we certainly look upon the TALVHI Project as meeting a special need to serve those who have honorably served our country”, Gray noted.
The event took place at the Grange Hall in Sterling in mid-October and was well attended by supporters from Sterling as well as many towns throughout the region. Susan Gray of Sterling was the chairperson. TALVHI officials attended and explained the importance of the project. |
