JANUARY 22, 2011 -- Patrick McGowan has a big heart and a creative mind.
McGowan writes poetry and stories and runs fundraisers for local programs for the homeless and for low-income families. His latest effort through the Preston City Grange is a 14-page cookbooklet with some basic and some pretty quirky recipes.
Students at Norwich Regional Technical High School printed the booklets and McGowan brought 40 of them to the St. Vincent de Paul Place soup kitchen, 10 Railroad Place, to sell for $5 as a fundraiser.
“The Tattered Page Cookbook” starts with “the original recipe for ice soup.” Here it is:
“Take your favorite soup cup. Add several frozen ice cubes. Pour in tap water to cup’s brim. Stir with favorite spoon, drink till ‘soup’ is finished! Under no circumstances never salt nor pepper!”
There are several clever “real” recipes as well, such as the Lobster Tail Stuffed Peppers, “Hark the Angels” Shepherd’s Pie and Exotic Caribbean Turkey Stuffing.
As McGowan writes at the end of each entry, “Enjoy.” |
