| OCTOBER 8, 2010 -- In August it was a special pleasure to honor 32 members of our Grange for a combined total of 1,770 years of service to the Order. Win Hurlbut received an 85 year letter, Katherine Morton received an 80 year letter, Larry Hurlbut received a 75 year certificate and Charlie Cooper received a 70 year seal among the many other seals and certificates presented. It’s not very often when Golden Sheaf members feel THAT young at an awards program.
An excellent article written by Terri Fassio appeared in many newspapers including the Waterbury Republican and Register Citizen who both gave most of an entire page to covering the event. You really can’t get better publicity than that!
The joy of that evening was made bittersweet a week later with the passing of Brother John Waterhouse who received his Golden Sheaf Certificate at the meeting. We are so happy that he was able to reach that milestone and have such a good time visiting with his friends at Winchester Grange. He will be greatly missed.
We are now looking ahead to our Fall Super Prize Party on Saturday evening, with the doors opening at 6:00 P.M. As of this writing, it hasn’t happened yet and we hope our new prices make the event even more successful with cards of 27 tickets going for just $1 each.
Looking further ahead, we are planning on participating in Winchester Day on Saturday, October 16. This event is a joint effort between the Grange, Winchester Center Congregational Church, the Winchester Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Winchester Historical Association who will all have different events and activities throughout the village. Winchester Grange’s contribution will be a tag sale.
We are pleased to report two new delegates will be representing State Session this year with Kim and James Mele accepting the election at the last meeting. Four resolutions were adopted and sent on to State Session and a vote was taken to take steps towards reorganizing Winchester Junior Grange #32. In the coming weeks we will be inviting the Conn. State Grange Growth Team to meet with our members to work on re-opening the Jr. Grange.
We congratulate Taghhannuck Grange #100 for once again placing first in the Bethlehem Fair Grange Exhibit Contest. We were still happy to place third in the contest and were even happier to have almost a dozen of our members working on the exhibit. Plans are underway to take the exhibit on the road to Riverton Fair in October. |
