JULY 16, 2010 -- Winchester Grange held their annual Strawberry Festival on Father's Day, June 20, with a great turnout of customers, a little bit of rain, and a visit by the newly crowned Laurel Queen.
Rebecca Nardi, a senior at Northwestern Regional High School, became the 76th person to wear the Laurel Queen crown during a ceremony held on Sunday June 14 as part of Winsted's Laurel Festival. It has been a long-standing tradition for the newly-crowned Laurel Queen to visit the Grange's Strawberry Festival.
The day was slightly dampened by a downpour in the middle of the afternoon. Unfortunately, it struck at a time when the line was stretching from the serving table all the way up the stairs, out the front door and down the walk in front of the Grange Hall. But appetites weren't dampened as attendees enjoyed some of the largest servings of strawberry shortcake in the county.
